Wat Yai Chai Mongkol entrance fee

Short History of Wat Yai Chaya Mongkol, Ayudhaya, Thailand
(The Great Temple of Auspicious Victory)

With the establishment of Ayudhaya as the capital city in 1350, King U-thong proclaimed this temple the “royal” temple. At that time it bore the name “Wat Chao Phya Thai”
The Temple had been the place of many important historical events. It was the seat of the Buddhist patriarchs and monks of the Forest Tradition (Aranyavasi School), which was noted for the practice of meditation and insight.

WAT YAI CHAYA MONGKOL–the Great Temple of Auspicious Victory -derived its name from the Chedi built to commemorate the renowned victory of King Naresuan the Great over the massive Burmese invasion in 1593.

The entrance fee is 20 THB. Very often after 6pm the ticket booth is closed and everyone is free to come in.

The monastery was constructed by King U-Thong in 1357 A.D. to accommodate the monks that were ordained by Phra Wanratana Mahathera Burean. This monastery was named “Wat Pakaew”.

Afterwards, Phra Wanratana of Wat Pa Kaew suggested to King Naresuan the Great to build a Chedi (pagoda). He decided to construct a large Chedi in this monastery in 1592 A.D. This monastery became known as Wat Yai Chaimongkhon.

The entrance fee is 20 baht.
