In Phuket there is only one airport I know of. In Bangkok there are two. BKK and DMK. They are not that far from each other.
BKK/DMK, You will get flight to Phuket from both the airports though DMK is preferable over BKK because of the domestic flight frequency.
BKK has train access, but DMK has the cheaper flights (generally speaking). I now choose BKK because I can take the trains to get relatively close to my destinations without sitting in nightmare traffic.
If you fly to DonMuang Airport, flight ticket is cheaper as they’re low cost airlines. If you land at Suvarnabhumi airport, it’s a bit more expensive tickets but public transport is a bit easier to get to town (use airport link)
Dmk overall is easier. Most fly from hkt. Done it many times
