24 hours to report to immigration?

I have been living in my Thai life companions house for ten years. Periodically we take trips to the The United Kingdom to visit my family. Now I am told that within 24 hours of our return to Thailand each time she must notify the immigration authorities in the area where we live. We have never done this before and nothing has happened. Does she have to do this and if so can she do it by phone? Our immigration office is miles away.
For information I am on a retirement visa and have to present my life companions id and tabien baan each time my visa is extended. Thank You for any advice.
